About - Pianoles Leuven is the piano and music workshop of Alexios Lizos. It is devoted to offer a connection to people of any musical level, age and interest. Its main teaching philosophy is to help students discover, appreciate and improve their musical abilities, have fun, reach their full potential and overcome possible musical and technical difficulties by establishing a safe emotional teaching environment.

EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

Aim of the methodology is to provide to piano enthusiasts & professionals an effective and enjoyable way of honing their musical skills and talent, while creating or extending their artistic insight, based on a better conscious musical awareness of their mental and physical function. Central core of the educational approach is the respect to the individual personality of every student, their learning ratio, needs, targets, and repertoire taste. Based on that idea, the lessons are cut out for:

Starters

People/students of every age who wish to start piano classes from “scratch-zero”. Basic parameters such as the work-load/schedule, musical taste, age, are shaping the teaching approach, offering a pleasant learning process.

Re-Starters

People who had piano/music classes in the past, and would like to start again. Previous experience is taken into account, various aspects of piano playing – if missing – are settled, and new teaching and musical material is offered.

Auditions/Exams preparation

People who have to present a program for “getting” a new grade, entrace examinations in Academies/Universities, Competitions, etc. Based on the examination standards, a detailed study/practice schema is formed, with extra-emphasis on correct ways of practicing, technical aspects, musical phrasing and aesthetics, forming a convincing and confident interpretation.

Children

Starting from the age of 4, music and piano can be taught in form of pleasant and challenging musical games, introducing gradually and carefully the secrets and joys of music-making. According to the age, different duration of lessons can be proposed.

Theory

People who wish to focus more on the theoretical aspects of music. Upon request and interest, the lessons can be specialized in theory, harmony, harmonical and morphological analysis, solfege & dictee, history of music, and introduction to counterpoint and fugue techniques.

Lessons - The lessons are conducted in English, Dutch and Greek. They take place at the workshop's address. The lessons are offered as packages of 20, 10 or 5 lessons, or as single lessons. The package lessons can be organized following a weekly or two-weekly schema, allowing the student to reserve a particular day and hour for his/her lessons, in agreement with the teacher’s schedule. According to the preferences of the student, the classes can focus on piano only, theory of music, or a combination of the two. All prices include taxes. Students under 18 get a 5% reduction for any of the 60 minutes lessons. THE PLACE

Teacher - Alexios is a holder of a Master’s degree in Piano Performance “magna cum laude”, after studying with prof. Alan Weiss in LUCA School of Arts – Campus Lemmensinstituut (2014). He graduated from the Music Studies Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with an extended Bachelor’s degree in Music Pedagogy/Musicology with Honours (2012). He received his Piano Diploma and Harmony degree from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.

CURRENT & FUTURE ACTIVITIES

An active participant in seminars, special piano courses and music education conferences (ISME, EAS), he nurtured his teaching skills during the last 7 years by giving piano and music theory classes privately or in various music conservatories, gaining valuable experience and recognition.

 

Fascinated by recent implications of neuroscience findings in music education and music psychology, his bachelors and masters thesis researches were focused on the morphological and functional effects of music education on an emotionally-guided musical brain.

 

An active solo and ensemble artists, since 2011 he performs as a cello-piano duo with Dimitrios Karagiannakidis (GR), and from 2016 as a violin-piano duo with Dries Brouwers (BE). He followed specialized studies on pianoforte and historical interpretation and currently he is practicing under the mentorship of prof. Jan Vermeulen.

 

Since 2015, he is the founder of the workshop “Pianoles Leuven” [PL], with the intention to form, alongside with his students, a piano practice methodology, based on a neuropsychological perspective.
